View Full Version : Scrapbook
I am creating a digital scrapbook that I also want to print for a gift. I am using software called Scrapbook Factory Deluxe. Does anyone know if I can just save these pages as .jpg and then print them in MP? Or is there another way or place to print these pages that looks better than on the glossy type paper I was getting at Kinkos? I want it to look like a real scrapbook (I guess the linen type look and feel). Thanks for any help!

Hi Meg,
I also have Scrapbook Factory Deluxe on my system, but haven't used it for quite some time. I would assume that you would save each layout as a .jpg and then insert each onto a MP page. If they are 12x12, you won't have to make allowances for the binding margin, but I would move them slightly to the outside edge of the MP page since about 1/4" of the page is used up in the binding. But I should emphasize that this "moving slightly to the outside edge" to ensure that your layout is centered on the page is a tough call because you really don't know how much of the page will be used on the binding side. If the layout is more of a 11 x 8.5 rectangle, then you'll also want to move the layout slightly to the outside edge for the same reason as stated above.
As far as the finished printed pages looking like a linen type and feel, I don't know about that, but would doubt it unless the elements, including the background paper you're using has that texture to it. I'm not familiar with the Kinkos look. Have you done a MP book before? If so, the quality of the glossiness and texture of the page, etc., will likely be the same as the book you've already printed. I've done 4 MP books, and I wouldn't say that the pages are glossy. They have a nice, sturdy, glossy-type feel to them, but they are neither shiny/glossy nor matte in finish. They are somewhere inbetween.
Hope this help some,
Marti

I'm sorry - I misstated the number of MP books I've done. I forgot to mention the ones I gave as gifts. So I haven't only done 4 MP books, I've done 8!

I'm posting another Classic book to demonstrate the versatility of PowerPoint for making books from scrapbooks. The photos in this book were taken in 1997 and I scanned everything you see in the book into my computer. Nothing in this book was originally digital. Back in 1997, the big deal in scrapbooking was cutting photos into shapes, so I scanned the shapes, and then deleted the white background in PowerPoint using the "transparency" tool. After doing all that (it took days), I discovered that my 8-year-old scanner was not producing the best results, but unfortunately I had already ordered the book. In any case, every page in this book was designed on a PowerPoint slide and the page layouts were duplicated from the original magnetic scrapbook I had made of these trips in 1997. I am now going to dispose of the big, heavy, archivally unsafe scrapbook because I now have a nice, professional-looking, lightweight book in its place - and I'm buying a new scanner today!
