How do you use the "Scrapbook" option in My Publisher? Is this one of the choices you have for the photobooks? Can someone explain to me how this works?

I viewed a shared album that someone posted on the Forum, and it looked like a true scrapbook, just on the computer! But I am confused on how to make my own "digital" scrapbook! :)

Thanks for your advice!

Hi kanda71407,

There really isn't a "scrapbook" option or choice in MyPublisher (MP), but after I made a couple of books with another bookmaking company, I realized I could put scrapbook layouts on full-bleed MP pages and create a "real" scrap"book". As Cruiser mentioned, I use PowerPoint (PP) to make my scrapbook layouts using the regular 10 x 7.5 PP slide size. I have made a couple of 12 x 12 layouts, too, in PP and used one on a page in MP and it worked fine. On that one, I believe there was a white margin on the left and right sides of the page, but it was okay.

I would suggest that you make a layout in one of your favorite scrapbooking software sites, save it as a .jpg, and then place it on a full-bleed MP page and see how it looks. I have made several books of layouts and on every single one, what I see on my screen is exactly what I get in my book. If you are making rectangle shaped layouts like I am, you may have to reduce your layout to position it on the page so that the binding side doesn't "hide" part of your layout. I'd allow about 1/4" on that side. In other words, move your layout on the page about 1/4" away from the binding side.

I'd be happy to offer more suggestions or help in any way I can to anyone interested in creating scrapbook "books" instead of scrapbook "albums". The scrap"books" I have surprised my family with have been received with unbelievable enthusiasm and awe - really, no one can figure out how I did it - and that makes it all the better! Good luck with yours!

Your scrapbooking pal,
Marti

I'm not following - can you email me directly? jabielot@earthlink.net - i would love to know more about making a scrapbook album thru mypublisher... we've already made 2 books, I've just been introduced to mypublisher and I'm in love... :)

I looked thru your scrapbook album and loved it... I want to do one myself, but can't find in PP where you have those layouts you used ... or adobe... can you recommend anything or help?

Hi Jennifer,

I emailed you also with this same info, but evidently you're having some Spam problems and I wasn't sure you'd receive my email. Anyway:

I'm glad you're excited about putting scrapbook layouts on MyPublisher (MP) pages and making books. I think the results are wonderful, but neither MP nor PowerPoint (PP) include scrapbook layout as options or choices for their pages. I have to create the layouts digitally, one by one, using papers and elements I've found on-line. So I build the layout on a PP slide. The PP slides I use are the regular 10 x 7.5 PP slide size and they are BLANK. I start from scratch to create the layout. When I finish a layout on the PP slide, I save it as a .jpg and move it to a full-bleed MP page.

I don't know if you saw the Classic book I did of my twin grandaughters, but maybe that will help. Each page that has a scrapbook layout on it was created on a PP slide, saved as a .jpg, and moved to a full-bleed MP page. I reduced each layout after it was on the page a little so nothing would be hidden on the binding side.

This is the link for my Classic book:

http://www.mypublisher.com/bookstore/book_viewer.py?order_id=M434562&sp=x

I hope this link works. I've had some problems with several MP book links today for some reason. I hope this explanation helps. I feel a bit helpless because I don't exactly know how to better explain what I am doing in PP, but if you have more questions after looking at the book, certainly let me know.

Good luck,
Marti

I went into photoalbum.com and it looked interesting; very flexible, but it seemed to be a site still in progress - they didn't have layouts or backgrounds available yet. The other thing I noticed was that it didn't seem to offer an 11 x 8 1/2 book in a hard cover, only in a soft cover. Also, when you say you walked into Costco, printed your proofs and then ordered your book, are you saying that you can order your book directly from Costco in person at the store? And one more thing, I didn't see the prices in photoalbum.com, but are they comparable with MyPublisher? Sorry for all the questions (and some of these may be dumb ones), but thanks for the help.

Hi Marti, Cruzier, Kanda and the rest of you out there. Well I'm excited about mypublisher/ scrapbooking too and I'm jumping right in using MS Powerpoint. I have a question and was wondering if any of you have tried this yet. If I create something in PP and use a black background will it bleed nicely when using the full page bleed BLACK option if it's not the exact size? If I pick the basic black background in PP, lay out 3 or 4 photos, some text, etc - if it's not the exact size of the FPBleed will the 2 blacks clash? I guess the question would go whether it's a FP Bleed or not... Does this make sense? I don't know how to explain it but hope you understand.
Thanks Christine

Welcome to the MP Scrapbookers forum, csstick56!

I think I get what you're asking: You're thinking of using the black-page option in your MyPublisher (MP) book, but you're also doing your layout for that same page on a black background in PowerPoint (PP). You're wondering if the two blacks will match or look weird together if the PP layout does not use up the entire MP page. Unfortunately, I haven't done any PP layouts on an all-black background, nor have I used many books with MP's black-page option. I suspect that the blacks may not match, but I have no evidence to base that on. Perhaps someone else has tried that. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but am excited that you're using MP for your scrapbooking. If you end up doing this, let us all know how it turns out.

Christine

I am definetely not an expert on the PowerPoint... However I design all my photos in CS3 and all my black backgrounds have worked perfectly with MyPublisher.

I love MP books. But I'm still disappointed they haven't given us scrappers a square book option yet. When I want to print my scrapbooks, I use HeritageMakers.com. They have the best quality and easy to use system I've found. I create my layouts in my photo software program, save it as a jpg file and upload each page as a whole. It's a piece of cake.

Merry Christmas to all!!

Hi Bethany,

I haven't heard of HeritageMakers. com, so will check it out. I create my layouts in PowerPoint because I like the fact that the 10 x 7.5 "slide" is the same shape as the MyPublisher page. I also save each slide as a .jpg and then upload to the MP page. I've been very happy with the results. Happy scrapping and bookmaking, and Happy Holidays!

Hi Shawna,

I am new to digital scrapbooking and have started trying to learn CS3. I know in my elements that everything was alittle more steamlined. I was wondering if there is a more simple way to create scrapbook pages in CS3. I also have Elements still available if I need it. Which software would you say is more conducive to creating pages?

Also, would you mind sharing what settings you use.

I am an photograpy addict and need to start document my family instead of hoarding all the memories for myself.

Thanks for any help.

Hi agodlife!

I hope someone can help you with your questions. I use PowerPoint almost exclusively, so am not familiar with CS3. But I agree wholeheartedly that you should share your memories with your family through your photographs. It can be a most gratifying experience.

Sorry I couldn't help more,
Marti
