I wanted to open files in other folders other than iphoto so I went to the file menu and clicked, open picture menu. The box came up I clicked on the file name which brought me to the actual images which were not hightlighted therefore I couldn't click to upload. Anyone know what the problem is? I am a total computer illiterate so I know it's something probably simple. Thanks for your help. Julie

Julie,
Are they JPG images? If not, your Mac will not let you select them. If they are JPGs and you still cannot import them, copy (don't move) the images into your iPhoto directory. Import them into your book and, once your book has been uploaded successfully, delete the copied images to make room on your hard drive.
HTH,

Oh hey Rob, thanks for responding! They are jpg. extentions. I would put them into iphoto if 1... my iphoto actually worked and 2... my computer wasn't almost at it's maxed out capacity for making any new images or downloading any more applications. Any other ideas of what the issue is?

"...if my computer wasn't almost at it's maxed out capacity for making any new images or downloading any more applications."
Hmmm..... that could be the issue, too. There's been a number of issues reported with the software slowing down as you add images. Add that bug to the fact your computer is pretty much at its capacity, and I think you have a possible/probable cause.
Can you free up any space on your computer by burning older files to a CD? Try that and also try re-installing the software.

Hi Rob, I really do need to clean up my computer. I have an external hard drive. The biggest problem is I'm trying to make a book from my favorite images so I pulled them all out on to my desktop. Also I am always working on a few jobs at a time and have copies of copies in both lightroom and Photoshop...ugh. I'm fairly new to digital and the computer so I am trying to get the workflow thing down. I can't imagine space would be the issue, but I'll try. Can I download from my external hard drive do you know? Julie

You should be able to point to your external drive.
Here's a thought - are you sure you are trying to select the actual image file and not a shortcut? I know Lightroom can create libraries with shortcuts....

so I tried from my external hardriev which still has quite a bit of space left and the image files were still grey and unclickable. So frustrating. Grrrr

Shotcut? Not sure what you mean but I decided to try an old folder that I never edited in LR to see if you were right even though I'm clueless to what you are talking about since I'm still new to this stuff and it to was not highlighted. Nothing outside of iphoto is loadable. Hmmmm...

Irusan -
Do you have example albums that a new user can view?
Thanks for any assistance.

One that I can share, but I am actually putting together some videos of my workflow that will show final pages. Stay tuned! :-)
