BOOK: M426920
CODE: 903797

I have already posted the actual pages of a parent album that we did. The code above is for our (bride and groom) album that we made for ourselves. It's due to arrive tomorrow :) It's a deluxe album with cover. I made the slides via powerpoint. Directions on how to do this are available on the site if you just search for the "powerpoint".

When it does, I will be taking actual photos of the pages (like I did with the parent album) and I will post a link to them if I can. I know that many want to see more completed books, and be able to see the actual book, not just the bookstore book so that you can see quality of the finished product.

Thanks! Yup. I did all the pages in PP.

I will let you know what I think when I get it in the mail :) My last 2 were classic books with no jackets, so I'm excited to see a deluxe with a jacket :)

I love your book! It's so classic and clean! What a beautiful bride you were :)

I also have to say that I understand the cost of the albums being an issue. Our photographer would have given us a 20 page flushmount for about 2K, I can get a 60 page book doing it here myself for about 125 with the discount :)

To all the photographers out there, this isn't a slight against you guys, it's just that we don't have 2K for an album. We could have gone with a low end photographer and gotten an album too, or we could have gone with the best our $$$ could buy but make our own albums. In the end, we really wanted the best pictures possible so we chose DIY albums :)

I completely agree with you!

There is no substitute for great photos (especially wedding ones!). I am so glad we decided to "splurge" with our wedding photographers. They gave us about 500 beautiful pictures (I only put about 65 of them in the book for now). Most of the wedding details (invitations, favors, place cards, etc., etc., etc.) don't seem so important now that the wedding's over. But we'll have our pictures to last a lifetime.

If someone can afford to pay $2000 for an album, that's great (& the price is probably warranted because the photographer spends a lot of time in Photo Shop making the pages). It was not an option for me so I'm glad My Publisher was. Now I won't be so concerned if a page gets ripped, coffe gets spilled, or our dog eats the book! ;-) Also, I now have the option to make another album in a few years when MP adds new layouts, etc.

We were planning on getting a "good photographer". The final cost would have been $3000, it was our biggest expense of the wedding after the location. It was suppose to be a 20 page (40 sided) book with the cardboard thickness and such. In our area it was hard to find a decent one for anything less. We were extremely unhappy with the photographer on our wedding day AND we put our faith in him to make the shots we wanted. We went over what we wanted and he just didn't do it. We ended up getting the photos without the book for $2500, which was what we had to pay up front before we saw 1 shot.

To top if off this guy was SO unprofessional, he insulted me, my hair, my mother's attitude (she WAS freaking out before the wedding, but not after). He wanted to know if we had anything on our minds like our nerves or the weather (it rained) because all of that will show on our faces. My husband and I were enjoying our families, we were excited and having a morning wedding leaves little time for nerves. We LOVED the fact that it rained it was GORGEOUS! We were married on Mackinac Island in Michigan and the ceremony faced the bridge which was covered with fog when we started. The fog had lifted by the end of the ceremony. LOVED IT! Hated the photographer, I know for a fact that we both were tired of the photographer by the end of the day, we have a few pictures to prove it. But we are just some "punk kids" who don't know any better the "professional" of 31 years has never had a complaint (gagging). I couldn't stand to get a book made by him no matter how pretty it may have been.

So we made our own. We used about 90% of his photos and 10% of our families photos. Our family captured the joy and excitement he failed to capture. They also took pictures of the guests, something he didn't think he needed to do.

I'm so glad we have professional shots, but I wish it was without the attitude. I am also glad that we "saved" $500 so we can plan a surprise for our mothers this Christmas.

I hope that you enjoy our book.

Pam,

I used the Just Photos layout with black pages. I zoomed a lot of my pictures so they were smaller than the space allotted by the layout (this allowed me to keep the image dimensions I wanted). I recommend trying the black background, it looks very professional.

You did a beautiful job with your wedding album! I'm new to my publisher and am trying to figure out what sizes to use in creating pages in photoshop. Right now, I am doing a book as a gift for a friend. however, I am also a fairly new wedding photographer. I'm wondering what some thoughts are on pro photographers offering albums from mypublisher as an alternative to the pricier albums? Yes, there would obviously still be some mark up for the photographs and design time, but I'm thinking some of my brides would like this option. Especially those who choose a traditional matted album - they may like something like this in addition - especially since it would be more affordable than the higher end and flushmounts.

Photo on photo directions:

These are gonna be "child directions" b/c I'm not technical :)

Add in the back photo you want. Drag the photo to cover the entire page.

Insert the other photos you want. They will appear on top of the other photo. Make them the size you want. If you want to make an outline on the photos, right click on the photo- you can go to "format picture" and go to the "line" section, you can play around with colors and line thickness there :)

If you want to have a photo "flipped to the back" you can also right click on the photo and hit "send to back". You can flip them around by doing this so that they are layered the way you want them- like the page where I have, I think, 6 photos of me getting ready/hair/shoes etc.

I think it's a matter of what you like. Honestly, I don't like the thick flushmount pages. LOTS of brides have these and they are VERY heavy- I'm talking like 6 inches thick, very wide and tall, and heavy in weight. So much so that it sits in a box in their bedroom, not out on display.

Ours? It's a REAL coffeetable book, sitting on the living room coffee table :) It's not huge or bulky and it's a great piece to our house, not sitting in some dusty old box :)

I can honestly say that if the prices were exactly the same for MP and flushmount? I'd STILL want an MP book. I just like the newer style. I'm sure photographers everywhere will cry out when reading this...."but they aren't REAL photos on the pages, just ink, but they aren't going to last as long as a flushmount acid free book, but the colors aren't as "true" as in a real photo album"......

I can say that I am not alone in my thinking as a bride- MANY other brides love the magazine style over the older "grandparent" style albums.

So YES, as a photographer starting out, I would offer these types of albums. On a side note- for those that want those "real album" styles, we have a place by us that will sell to "regular folks". The name is "colortech" and they can be found online.

You can go in and buy the higher end albums to fill- they have all kinds, the ones that are flushmount and you "press and stick" the photos into it, the kind that have holes of various sizes to fill in etc. I considered making one of these for us too, but I just didn't like them as much- they seemed to "bulky" to me.

jdziadosz - What a great album!

Quick question - how did you get the pictures to spread across two pages? I'm doing my spreads in Photoshop Elements, and I'd love to incorporate this look.

Thanks for posting - it provided me with lots of inspiration for my own wedding album

I created the layout as one big image and then copied the image twice into bookmaker putting half of the image on one page and half on the other. You'll need to be careful when lining the images up.

Ok let's try this again...

Here is an example of a wedding album that I did for my mother in law. (I never made one for myself, my wedding was really white trash and aside from actually marrying my husband I didn't get anything that I wanted).

My total wedding budget was $2500...that is food, decorations, cake, dress, photog, license, and honeymoon (my inlaws gave us $1500 but that basically covered the cost of our rings). We couldn't really afford the photogs that I liked, www.allieanne.com and www.aubreym.com so thepics aren't very good.

So yeah, ultra-budget wedding from hell; I was a photo major and if I could have taken my own photos, I would have and they would have been much better. So basically I paid the photog for his time, the photos on DVD and the copyright release. About 1/3 of the photos I have are from friends and family.

My mother-in-law REALLY wanted a photo book (I think she thinks she is saving my future children from not having any wedding photos of their parents). She came over and picked out the photos and then I put them in the mypublisher software and then she and I laid them out using JUST the mypublisher formats. (if it were up to me I would have chosen just the black background layout, but I'm old school with photos).

In two hours from start to finish (including choosing the photos she wanted) this is what we had, and my mother in law is very happy with it.

I have done engagement, bridal, and wedding photos for my friends and basically just charged them for time and materials and gave them their negs and a set of prints to do with as they please. (Usually I'd do a hand full of special prints too, like Van Dyke Brown, polaroid transfers to water color paper, or a hand colored b*w print just so they had something unique) I found mypublisher about 2 1/2 years ago and since then I've been sending my friends and family here when I do their photos and they love it. Basically its scrapbooking for us lazy people.

Yes, there are some Pros on this site. I have used the MP books for about 3 years now, however, I've been in business for over 20 years. In my business, I offer traditional albums and Coffee Table Books. I looked at the book you posted, nice job on layout. What can I do for you?

Looks like your professional photographer did a pretty good job. It's never just the photographer, the subjects (the couple) have as much to do with the outcome of the photographs as anyone. Congratulations on your wedding. How well your marriage turns out depends on you and not just the minister. I don't think this forum is intended to bash professional photographers... I'm sure some deserve it, but yours really did a pretty good job.

I'm not saying he's bad, or a talentless hack. He did his best, but it wasn't the same artistry and quality that I've come to expect from professionals. He's just a weekender who calls himself a professional, I knew that and I chose him anyway because he was all we could afford.

DU, I respect your input and I agree, photog bashing isn't appropriate in this venue, but I wasn't bashing him, just expressing an opinion on his final product, which is what I was working with for the book. And really when you think about it, is "pretty good" good enough for someone's wedding...when it comes to any detail of the big day? Shouldn't it all be superlative? I had to make do with OK and Pretty Good...and it is what it is, but its hard when its not Excellent, Outstanding, Amazing, and Incredibly Memorable.

All brides deserve the absolute best on their big day. That's why if I know that someone isn't into my style of photo and I can't grasp what look and perspective they want for their big day, I refer them to someone I know they will mesh with better. I don't care about money, I do it for love and art and love of art.

If you want to create a hardbound sewn book that you have 100% control of, including the cover, all the pages and the back cover and create a wedding poster, cards and calendars, then check out this amazing website-

I understand how to insert the pictures on top of others, but how did you do the effect where the background photo is sort of grey-ed/faded out? I love how that looks, because then the inserted photos really pop...

Hi

How did your book with the 2-page spread print out? I see you say leave 3/4" on left photo and 3/4" on right photo for inside bind margin - it seems a lot, does it work out OK?

I'm more than happy working with PhotoShop, just need guidance on MyPublisher requirements.

Your book looks great btw!!

Thanks

Beautiful church, I would have loved to walk down such a long isle in my gown, but the church we went to had a short (I mean ridiculously short) isle.
Good job on the album.

First of all, left and right sides of the 2 page spread have to be different as far as the margins are concerned, because of binding. The binding itself takes almost 1/2" of the page. Since in my example I had images "floating" above the background, I made sure that those were about 1/4" away from any edges: top bottom and sides. So if you add 1/2" + 1/4", you get 3/4" at the binding spot.
It works out well.
You can play with the layout, without ordering a book. Just use Bookmaker software and create layout and then just preview it. That is how I came up with that number.

I noticed your 2 page spread is really tight and seamless in the preview. How did the actual printed album come out? I've been reading at least 1/2" and some saying 3/4" at the binding. It looks like you've left almost no spacing in between. Did it come out ok in print?

Hi! Your album is beautiful, as was your wedding!!

Quick Question for you: I love one of your photos and would like to do something simliar to what you did, but don't know how-- the photo is of you and your bridal party in the church. The photo is black and white, except for the bridesmaid dresses and flowers are only in red. Did you photographer do this for you, or where you able to do this using My Publisher? I would love to know!!

And, if anyone else knows how to do this using this program, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
