Dear MyPublisher
Here is some feedback for you?
I recently used MyPublisher to create a ?deluxe? sized book containing just over 200 photos and 77 pages. I?m very pleased with the finished product.
However my experience of using the MyPublisher software was a frustrating one. As the book grew, so the performance of the software degraded, until for the last few pages, I took to having a book to read ready for the frequent occasions on which the software would hang for two to three minutes. Of course, by this stage I had already invested a great deal of time making the book and was reluctant to abandon the project.
My PC, by the way, is reasonably powerful with 2Gb RAM and a 3GHz processor. The photos were taken with a Canon EOS20D at a resolution of 2336 x 3504. I now see from your response to other posts that you regard images of this size as ?overkill for our software and printing?. But surely a great many, if not most, of your users now start with images this resolution or higher. So I think the software should cope better with such image files.
A second frustration was that the user has no control over where MyPublisher saves data, either at software installation time or by using the File > Save As menu item. The software saves data to: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\MyPublisher\BookMaker\... For the book I have just completed this area now contains 7GB of data. Since my c:\drive is only 40GB this is inconvenient and I will have to back the area up to another drive and then free up the space on c:\.
Overall I was left with mixed feelings about MyPublisher. Friends who have seen the finished album have asked which site I used to create it, but in telling them I had also to warn them that creating the book was really quite a painful process, much more time consuming than I think it should have been.
For my next book I intend to try an alternative site (www.photoservice.com but it helps that I speak French for this one?). I?ll see how I get on, but there are many things I liked about MyPublisher ? there?s an elegance to the software, and the final product was great ? so I?d like to return to MyPublisher if you can make some crucial improvements!
Kind regards
Philip
