View Full Version : Book Jacket Issues

I received my book jackets today for a book I previously created. Unfortunately it looks like there are still some issues. I used the "Travel" template.

http://picasaweb.google.com/david.imboden/Bookjacket

In the first picture you see a white line between the front flap and the front page. I actually wouldn't mind this so much, but the crease between the back page and back flap does not have this white line, so it looks weird when actually on the book.

In the second picture there is a white line, which is again our of place, on the spine AND the words got cut off. The words were not cut off in the preview.

In the third picture, this is the worst part, they printed the invoice bar code right on top of the picture.

I emailed customer service on the 13th with no response. This also happened after the pricing mistake that was charging me 10x the jacket price. They did respond to that and I did get the pricing mistake credited, but it took a couple of emails back and forth because they originally told me the price was correct.

I looked at your pictures and it looks like a printing error. Also, I would seriously object to having any bar code on my cover. This is the first I've heard about a bar code. Some object to the logo in the back of the Classic book. I emailed customer service this morning about a lost book and within an hour received an email with a replacement coupon.

Try emailing again and include the pictures that you posted if you can. I've received such good customer service that it is hard to believe that they won't make this good for you.

We are looking into this right away. I apologize that your book jackets arrived with these errors. I will contact you shortly with a solution.

Thanks, Customer Serivce did respond and give me a coupon code for new book jackets, which I appreciate, but they did not give me any feed back that the same issues would not happen again.

They told me to "move" the photo so that its not in the way of the barcode, but you can't move photos, its a set template. There was no mention of a fix for the white lines and as far as the text on the spine they told me I need to "preview" before sending. Of course I did that, and on Bookmaker the words are within the box, no "RED" text. So I don't want to order them again until I know the issue is resolved. (I did reply back to customer service asking for more clarification, but have yet to receive a response)

MyPublisher...why is there a bar code? Most users are buying the books for personal use and not resale. Is the bar code on the advanced jackets only order or will I have a bar code on my new Deluxe album with an advanced jacket? It doesn't show when I preview the book in the bookstore.

How do I return to regular book jacket that I originally created. The enhanced book jacket gave me options on the inside flaps and rear cover that I did not want. I am only interested in keeping the spine and the front cover. I want the rest plain black.

Any word on whether the white lines will be gone and the bar code not over the photo if I reorder? I haven't heard from CS and I'd like to reorder soon.

Thanks,
~Dave

Dave,

I received my Deluxe book last Friday. The bar code was on the inside back flap at the bottom of the Advanced jacket. I would prefer not to have it at all but at least it is in a place that doesn't cover a photo.

I also ordered a Classic book and there was no bar code on the jacket.

My Deluxe and my Classic covers both printed perfectly. I used bold on the print on the covers and in the book so there would be no problem with the print being hard to read.

I would go ahead and reorder if you have a coupon. I wouldn't reorder unless I had a coupon to reorder for free...If it were me, I would make a new jacket and place a new order using the code.

So I recreated my book jackets using a different template. I then tried to reorder with the coupon provided and it only took off $7. So I wrote to customer service and they gave me another coupon that was supposed to be $70. I tried to order again, and again it only showed a $7.00 discount (and free shipping). mypublisher mentioned a new update, so I redownloaded Bookmaker. It didn't change anything. So I went ahead and ordered anyway and then rewrote to customer service and asked for the other $45 to be refunded. Now, I know that they'll take care of it, because they always do, but I shouldn't have to go through all this.

In fact, the email that came back showed a total of $545.00 instead of $54.50 (which was a problem I had last time) and gave me a discount of $497.50. (these weren't the same totals on the checkout screen, but the final total of $47.50 is the same).

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Hi hbdave - that does not seem like a good experience. I do sincerely apologize. I am having a supervisor contact you directly to work everything out.

Everything of course worked out, which I know you guys are good with. Its just that it has to cost you guys money with credit card charge backs, having to reprint and then pay for shipping on the second go around. In the end, that is just going to cost your customers more because you'd have to raise prices. There just has to be a better way.

I'm just crossing my fingers that a barcode is not going to cover a picture on the inside back flap like it did last time. Noone could confirm to me that it won't.

Did you use the same template? I unfortunately know the answer to this (I was out last week on my honeymoon, I got married) and if you have used the same book jacket template, the bar code is most likely in the same place. We are working on moving it. Let me know...

I used the "Just Photos" template this time because I wasn't sure if the white lines and the barcode were going to be issues (and I wanted a full picture on the back). BUT, the Just Photos template also has the picture at the bottom of the back inside flap.

Congrats on your honeymoon.. Are you using Mypublisher for your wedding albums? ;)

I took a quick look at your order...GREAT book jacket by the way! I fear it may interfere as well. I'm hoping the bar code will get moved by next week. It's not as easy to move as you'd think in all honesty.

I know its mostly automated but if you could "pause" the order until you fix the barcode issue, I'd rather just wait, as I would probably want new ones when the barcode fix is implemented anyway.

Hey HBDave - I'll do my best. Either way we are correcting the issue so you will be able to order your original jacket (tan background)

My new ones came and they look really nice, except for the barcode over the back picture. I understand the need for them and all you need to do is move the pictures up in the template so they aren't covered by them. Let me know when the pictures or barcode are moved and I'll reorder.

It would be nice to have a generic barcode show up in the book jacket preview, so people know where its going to be.

thanks again for all your work on this forum!

~Dave

I'm actually using your original book jacket as a template. We are moving the barcode so it is much further down and to the corner. It will not cover the photo in that travel template. It will still be on the full bleed images on the very corner though. We are looking into redesigning the template as well, but that's easier said than done!
