Does anyone else share my problems with the latest update for BookMaker? I was prompted to upgrade on opening the program. On restarting, I got an error message with an option to report the problem. Once I attend to this message, the program will quit. This is an infinitely repeatable bug. So no books for me, and no chance to revert to an earlier version of the software.

Hi

I have the exact same problem, except I am using Windows XP.

I am getting a bit tired of creating the same book again and again, since the help page reccomends deleting everything from the folder, including the software, and setup again. Since the error does not allow me to export the book, I loose all my work.

I hope they can fix this...

I installed 2.05 for the Mac last night, and then tried to create a new book. I added in 600 or so pictures (big trip...) and went on to the 'Organize' screen and a load of the pictures were missing and just showed a big yellow cross in a box like so [X].

Clicking on any of them gave the dialog to let me report an error (which I did), but with this permanently repeating error and the fact that a lot of the pictures are missing means I won't be able to use the software.

I was running it on an Intel iMac with 1Gb of memory and nothing much running, and I tried it running natively or via Rosetta - same result both times. Back to iPhoto I go...

Hi,
I have an intel iMac, downloaded the Bookmaker software last week and spent 4-5 hrs today trying to put together a book from a wedding last weekend. Wish I had read all the problems about the buggy software and poor customer service before I started the project.. after finishing the book I tried to upload and almost immediately I got the error "booksmart unexpectedly quit". Tried again after quitting all open programs and having only bookmaker and safari open... same error..
I'm going back to Blurb.com! great for Macs..

Yes - repeatable crashes over and over again. No books for me till this is fixed.

Andrew - are all of your photos non-layered (flattened) jpegs in the RGB color space? This is the only file type that will work with BookMaker software so please check each one to ensure it is in the proper format.
Also, having so many photos in the program at once may be causing an issue especiallly if they are large file sizes. We recommend adding only the photos you plan to use into the program. This may help.

We have launched a new version of our Mac software that may help with some of the crashing issues. Please be sure to visit our website (www.mypublisher.com) and download the latest version. You can install the new version over what you currently have but your books will be saved so you can continue working on them in the new version.

I have downloaded the lastest update for the mac but am still having problems trying to purchase book. The software says I have blank pages and asks if I want to delete them. If I say yes it deletate all the text only pages. If I say no and try to upload it also deletes all the text only pages.

I hate to give up on My Publisher, but it appears after lots of time spent trying to get books published it's time to go back to Aperture. They are more expensive, but at least you can get the job done.

Wish I would have seen this forum when I was creating my book around Christmas time. I spent two days building two books on my Mac - a 100 page book and a 60 page book with at least 2 pictures and one caption per page. After 45 minutes had passed during the upload process the program quit. When I opened the books up again, my pictures were there but all my captions and notes were gone. Customer service was very responsive at that time, but had no answers for me and told me to "try it again". I put it on the back burner and have dreaded doing the work again. Now I won't even try it on My Publisher after reading all of the comments.

I fianally figured it out. I was able to upload my book and get it ordered.
Go to control Panel on your computer. Click on the Security Center.
Than click on Internet Options. Than click on The Advanced Tab.
Scroll down to Security. Click on all of the tabs that say ENABLE.
Also disable your firewall.
You can alway enable it once your finished. And you can reset your settings in the Advanced section if you want.
This worked for me. And I was able to finally get my book uploaded, after trying for one week. Kathy

I have the same exact problem with the Mac App 2.1 crashing and then asking if I want to report it, and then crashing over and over again. Come on, get it together. I have a 100 page book that I want to print and your software is obviously not ready to use on a Mac. Please fix this. I am on a Mac G5 dual 2.5GB with 4.5GB RAM. Please work out the bugs on this otherwise decent software.
Your business depends on it, as does mine.

I do not have a MAC but I do use My Publisher to create books.

I was recently forced to update to version 2.1and have not had any luck at all.

I was looking for assistance from the help desk and I have not had the greatest luck yet. (3 week process at this point)
I have uninstalled every instance of My Publisher and MyBook to no avail.
I repeatedly get this error as soon as I launch the program.

We have created a BookMaker error report
c:\bookmaker-2.1.0.1971.2FC907B71.dmp that you can send to us.
The error reports help MyPublisher to diagnose problems, provide solutions
and make BookMaker more reliable in future.
To help us diagnose the cause of this error please describe what you were
doing when this error occurred and send attached error log file
c:\bookmaker-2.1.0.1971.2FC907B71.dmp to crashlog@mypublisher.com

Please help.

Hi Quality with a K -

That is a crash log that you have received from the application. Our developers are working as hard as they can to get to the bottom of the crash logs, however the process can be time consuming. There are an infinite number of configurations that can cause a crash...anything from PC settings, to your specific image, a sequnce of events, camera settings (that then translate over to the photos). We receive only a handful of crashes each month. I'd recommend trying to re-download BookMaker or I noticed you are a computer person from your e-mail so let me know if you'd like me to contact you offline. I can walk you through getting a new version of BookMaker (checking your application data).

Sincerely,
MyPublisher

In case you were not offered specific instructions on how to remove BookMaker from your Program Files completely, please review the following. These steps assume you have already used the Add and Remove Programs tool in the Control panel to remove BookMaker once more:

- Double click on "My Computer"
- Click on the Tools menu
- Select Folder Options
- Go to the View tab
- Under Hidden files and folders click the radio button: Show hidden files and folders
- Click on OK
- Double click on Local C Drive in My Computer
- Double click on Documents and Settings
- Double click on the user folder identified with your name on your computer
- Double click on the Application Data folder
- Double click on the MyPublisher folder
- Double click on the BookMaker folder
- Delete everything in the folder, including the folder
- Empty your recycle bin

Once BookMaker has been deleted from your program files, please go to http://www.mypublisher.com and download a fresh copy of the software. You will want to save this to your desktop, not run at this time, so be sure to delete any other installer copies previously saved and empty the Recycle Bin to make sure no other file will interfere with the installation when ready.

Before installing BookMaker once more, it is very important to make sure your system is up to date by visiting Windows Update and installing any recommended items found there and restarting your computer. When you are confident that your operating system has its current components installed and have rebooted, please do not run any other program and double click the BookMaker icon on your desktop to install it once more.

This should overcome the problem unless there is system conflict occurring that, unfortunately, we may not be able to identify. Please let us know if you have any difficulty along the way or if you are still not able to get up and running with BookMaker once more. We do sincerely appreciate your kind patience and understanding and look forward to helping you overcome this difficulty as quickly as possible.

Ayana
