I spent considerable time working with the book jackets last night. I note the following:
- the software is unbelievably buggy and crashed numerous time (with the message that the software was not responding, amongst many other problems and quirks).
- there appears to be a significant difference in functionality between the software for creating book jackets separately from a book, and the ones you can create using the advanced jacket feature within a book. One big difference is that you cannot make the picture full page on the back of the jacket NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, and you have much less flexibility in designing the front and back flaps. I do not see anywhere on the mypublisher website where they tell you that this is the case. It is frustrating that I had to discover this problem on my own.
So, I have a choice - I either pay $18 in addition to the book cost which is already substantial to get the book jacket I really want, or I pay the usual $9 to get a so-so book jacket that isn't really what I want as part of the book.
I think I will mention this information to people who are doing reviews of mypublisher, as it is not obvious on first blush.
I like this product, but mypublisher needs to be more upfront about any issues and differences in features due to trying to get software out the door that is not quite debugged. If we were better informed, this functionality difference would be more forgivable.
