View Full Version : Can updating to 2.2 cause problems?

Question 1: I am having a problem adding to a book that was already completed in 2.1. Granted, it is a megabook. I have 500 photos in the "get pictures" but probably more like 300 or less in the actual book. Finished, it should be about 65 pages. But now, the program is freezing up. I am trying to delete pictures to eliminate the load, but it either takes five minutes a picture or doesn't work at all. Any manipulation gets a "bookmaker not responding." message. I've tried to eliminate pictures from the previous copy of the books I based the current one on, thinking I'll start over using one of those books, but it also works slowly or not at all. Could this be because I upgraded and I created the book in 2.1? I'm just about ready to completely start from scratch using a new book in 2.2...and collecting all the picutres again, but wonder if when I get to the end it will do the same thing.
Question 2: What is "dime?" I exported my books to get them off the software but I can't open them. How do I do that? I also tried to import back into my publisher, but it gave me the "parse" message. From another post I read, does that mean it's corrupted? I really thought I'd get this done by this weekend. I want to surprise my friends with a copy of our trip album before long. I got my two books back (that I'm basing their books on) and they are fantastic! I thought this would be easy, since I'd done most of the work already...but now...what a pain!

I am having the same issues~! Was in the middle of 2.1 book and upgraded. Also in the upgrade I cannot find any font less than 14 pt for the all text page. I was using arial 12 in 2.1

Yep, had the same issue. I copied and pasted from an earlier book. The font size in the old book was 12. The smallest in the new is 16. BIG PROBLEM!

Same problem for me. I now had to create my text page in another program and make it a jpg and bring it into bookmaker that way since as 14 point it would not fit. Big pain. Also, the program seems to have corrupted the font and text editing features (in text pages and in the advanced jacket) twice so that I had to re-install the program to be able to do any edits to text pages. And, once corrupted, the text pages all would have the same text on them so that if I edited one text page, all text pages would show the same text.
Very buggy software. Wish I could downgrade back to 2.1, but now my books are saved in version 2.2, so I wouldn't be able to open them.
fyi - dime exports are worthless, since if you try to reimport them, it just says that the book already exists, and there is no external file one can delete to get rid of the book in the list.
I would say, if you do not need the advanced jacket, you should stay far far away from version 2.2. It takes like 15 minutes now to save a book to a new name. That is ridiculous. And usually, instead of saving, it just crashes the software anyway.

I upgraded to 2.2 without any problem and get 10 as my smallest font. I did not upgrade during making a book, however. I haven't had any problems making books and uploading them using 2.2 and my books made using 2.1 appear undamaged. Perhaps the problem was trying to upgrade while in the process of making a book.

I also downloaded 2.2 from CostCo so now I get a discount when I order until their discount expires. If I load a special coupon from MyPublisher, it overrides the CostCo discount.

I made an advance cover for my Deluxe album I am making now and love the software. I can go back and forth changing from album types to album types without a problem except I have to re-center text on the cover.

I wish everyone had as good luck as I have had with the upgrade. I see absolutely no problems. In fact, I wanted to try a 20 page paperback book so uploaded my files without any problem in just a few minutes and I had rather large files. Within minutes, I had the order number. Now, I am anxiously waiting for it to ship.

Thanks for your feedback and confirming my problems.
Well, I started all over again using 2.2 and so far I've been able to add all my photos without it freezing up. I have 60 pages. Now I am trying to add text. I was aware that the font size changed, so that's okay with me...but a weird thing happens with the font size. At first it is fairly small...I think it types in at 12 points. And it reads 18. Then I scroll and hit 14pt and the size jumps up bigger than how it looked when I first typed it in. Then there is no way to go back. I'm afraid to send in my book, because I'm not sure what the true font will look like.

MYPUBLISHER! Where are you? Any response to these problems?

My Publisher-PLEASE RESPOND.... I need to get the smaller font options back in order to finish off my 6 books and get them ordered! Clearly this is an issue for those of who upgraded to 2.2! Please fix!! I really do not want to go elsewhere and redo these 90 page books! But I need to finish them and need the 12 pt option that was there in 2.1

The font issue was addressed by mypublisher in another question I asked. Apparently there was a glitch. If you load 2.2 again, mypubilsher says it should give you a 12point option in the Best Seller Version. (I haven't tried this yet, thought) From other posts I found that other types of books carry smaller size fonts...depends on the style you choose. Still no answer as to why I had freezing up problems, but that's behind me now. Waiting for my finished books to arrive.

I had problems download the 2.2 version as well. I was in the middle of purchasing my book in the 2.1 version and was downloading 2.2 at the same time - dumb thing on my part. I totally lost my book in the 2.1 version and was not able to retrieve it. Needless to say I had to re-create my book in the 2.2 version.

I tried getting technical assistance during this two day process but was unable to get assistance in a timely manner. It was quicker just to re-create the book.

I am awaiting my book to arrive - can't wait!

Try downloading 2.2 from our site again and see if that brings back the 12 point font option. I just tested it and do see that it is available.
Also, I would recommend only keeping the photos you plan on using in your book within the BookMaker program. This will give the software more room to run and not take up as much memory and space on your hard drive.
Hope this helps!
