Here's a recommendation concerning the storage of the book data.

1. Here's What's Wrong With Where You Store The Data

The photos and layout information that I create is a document. It is my document. It should be stored in My Documents. You have stored it in Application Data. It is not application data. Application data consists of things like settings, toolbar customizations, etc.

2. Why it is Bad That You Store the Files in the Wrong Place

The Windows system is designed to have all documents stored in My Documents. For example, every week, my system backs up the contents of My Documents, and because you have not placed the myPublisher documents there, they are not backed up.

Please consider making changes here, and, ideally, allowing the user control over where the files are stored.

Thanks,

Al

Hello Al,

Thank you for your business with MyPublisher, and I'm sorry for any confusion regarding file storage of your books!

Please understand that our software automatically stores your saved book files in the Application Data folder, as this is required for our software to be able to read the files in their current format. So, it's reccommended that you do not try to alter of move the files from that location.

However, if you'd like to make back-up copies of your work, you can certainly do this. This requires a few steps on your part, but will be worth the effort, in the event that you have a problem with your computer, and/or cannot retrieve the data for some reason.

To copy/export a book file out of, and then back into the software to order or edit, you can “export” and then “import” the file. Here's how:

(A) Export your .dime file from the software onto your hard drive.

- Go to File
- Select Export
- Select the directory (folder or desktop) where you want to save your book
- Name your book file
- The Save As type will auto select as a Dime package (a file with the extension .dime)
- Click Save

Alternatively, if you want to create a back-up of your book file onto a CD, open your CD writing software (such as Roxio, Easy CD Creator, or Record Now) and copy the .dime file from your hard drive to the Data CD as a Data file using this CD writing software. You can also copy your .dime file to a Thumb drive, Zip drive or other portable media.

(B) You can now delete the book if you need to (the one that you just exported) from the software.

(C) When you are ready to Import your book from your hard drive or from the CD, Thumb drive, Zip drive or other portable media back into the software, do the following:

- Go to File
- Click on Import
- Select the .dime file (your book) from your Desktop or Folder, or CD
- Click Open
- The file will be added to the software into your book library.

Again, thanks for your business with MyPublisher, and I hope this information is helpful.
