I recently ordered a book from another website. Many of the photos were not very clear. The files were really large (5 -10 MB per picture). I don't know if the large size of the files is the reason or not. Because they were taken by a professional photographer and the files were given to me, I don't know the mega pixals. I was thinking of making another book on this website but am concerned that I will have the same issue.

Any thoughts?

Hi Brandi,

You should be fine - as you read through these forums, you'll see that almost all of us are really happy with the results.

After you download the software and then add your images, just make sure that there is a blue border around the images and not a red border. If you see a red border, it means that the image won't print at a very good quality. Just make the image smaller in BookMaker until the border turns from red to blue and you should be really happy with the resulting book.

I have the same concern. I shoot at the max possible with my Nikon 10mp camera, but appears they will need to be downsized to print properly per MyPublisher Help topic...

"Photos taken with a 7 mega-pixel or greater digital camera may print blurry and/or pixilated. We do not recommend you use these photos in the BookMaker software unless they are reduced to a lower pixel setting."

Does anyone have experience using mypublisher with high res? I would have never expected the resolution to be too high to print properly.

I had been wondering about low res questions and how to tell if the picture will be pixillated -- Did I crop too much? I gather from one of these postings that there is a red border that will inform me of this problem. I'm glad to know that. I hadn't seen this info anywhere while making my book. I hope that I would have been notified of the significance of red boxes if I had one. I will go back and check my book to make sure there are not any.

Hi MISoccerMom -
If you don't see the red line...fear not, you should be all good.

this problem with the 7+MP pictures, is it visible or evident in Bookmaker somehow?
How can I know if any of my pictures are going to be messed up because of this before I send it to be printed?

I shoot with 2 cameras, one of which is 5MP and the other is 8MP. I have thousands of pictures about half with each and I have spent a lot of time putting hundreds of them into a photobook I am laying out right now....I really hope im not going to have half of them print blurry.

I think I know what you are referring to....on web pages if you have a really highres image and constrain the dimensions of the image as it is being displayed it can get a little blurry....i guess im just hoping it is as obvious in the bookmaker software when you are running into this problem as it is on a web page.

These problems are because the 7MP pictures are of a higher resolution than 5 or 6MP pictures right? What is the desired resolution? Like if I am going to run an action to go through all my photos and change their resolution, what should I be changing them to? Also how can I export a list from bookmaker of what photos are being used (preferably with their paths) so I know which photos on my hard disk I need to change the resolution of? and if I change the resolution of the image, the next time I open bookmaker it will be using the new lower-res versions right?

You shouldn't have a problem if you do as others have said- make sure there are no red boxes.

Keep in mind that MP is consistently rated higher than other photobook places in terms of quality/sharpness of books. I've heard of the same issues with other companies which I won't name. It could be that you bought a book with a company that, though popular, doesn't produce the same quality print job.

If you are still worried, I would make a quick 20 page book in the classic style and go with no jacket. That way all you have wasted is 30 bucks if you are not happy. If you are happy, then make your real book then

Hi Slug420 -

Honestly you should be OK if there are no red lines. I made a wedding album for myself with high resolution images 5mb each and it printed perfectly. If you are not satisfied, customer service will definitely credit you.

Sincerely,
MyPublisher

I've made five individual books with MP and shoot with a high end digital SLR. All my files post-Photoshop run > 4 megs in Jpeg (15-20 megs in tiff). Each shot in the book was tack sharp and he color reproduction was spot on. If your original image isn't sharp to begin with, the softness will be enhanced to the viewer when it is enlarged. I suspect this is what folks run into trying to push some images taken with a low end point n' shoot.

I have made 4 books so far. The last 2 were shot with 10.2Meg pix camera. All files were used as shot. No problem with sharpness. The only inconvenience is that large files take long time to resample by MP software and long time to upload.
