DPI

I would of just my book if I had not seen all of these post which now has me very nervous. All my vacation pictures were taken with our new sony point and shoot camera, 8.1 mega-pixals. How important is the DPI. When I look at the pictures in my files it is only 72 DPI. I would never have even checked this if it wasn't for so many post about this subject. Will my pictures not print well then? I want to make a large album.
