CostCo has PE7 on sale at costco.com for $49.95 this week through December 7, 2008. Included is a scrapbook training DVD that if bought separately costs $36.95. The author of the DVD has partnered with CostCo to include a complimentary copy in PE7.
I bought the copy for $79.95 just a few weeks ago. This is a very good deal. I hope all of you take advantage of getting it. The DVD itself is worth the price. I have learned so much from working through the examples. The training videos are awesome.

My husband actually just bought it for me this weekend (great price!). I haven't loaded PE7's bonus scrapbooking software yet, since the last "bonus" software I got free was a piece of junk. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll have to try it out!
I've found there's a pretty steep learning curve to PhotoShop Elements (a guy at work gave me his unused PE4 so I've been playing with that for a month or so). I've been going through lots of tutorials I found online (www.photoshoproadmap.com/Photoshop-tutorials/Photoshop-Elements-tutorials), and I've been impressed with the enhancements I've been able to make to simple snapshots.
PE is really cool, but does take some concentrated effort! (It's nice to be learning something new!)

Thanks Cruiser for the info! I just got my new computer Sunday and was going to wait until after holidays to purchase Elements 7 for myself but I can't pass up that offer. I guess it'll be an early present to myself! Thanks again!

The DVD is a stand alone training DVD. You don't have to load anything on your computer. Just put the DVD in and let it open. Its a great tool and I'm sure you will get lots of help from it. When the DVD starts, click on "Open In Windows Explorer" (for PC - I'm not sure what you use in Mac) and choose "Start Here". The other files are goodies and other training stuff along with some actions and brushes for PE7.

Does this sound like the same thing, Cruiser? My bonus software CD contained a "start_here" html document which opened into an internet browser. The document contains several links and a display window.
Unfortunately, when I go to any of the links, it says I need a plug-in for it to display the content. It automatically tries to find the plug-in, but I'm not online. It doesn't tell me which plug-in it needs or I could download it at work and install it (this laptop hasn't made it to any cyber-cafes yet, and I don't see that happening soon).
Any clue what plug-in it may need?
Thanks!

You may need an update to Quicktime or Flash. I'll check the web site and see if I can find anything that will help and post back here.

It most likely Quicktime. Here is a link to the Scrapper's Guide web site FAQ concerning this problem.

It was QuickTime. I've been able to watch some of it. There's SO MUCH to Photoshop Elements that I really appreciate that she highlights which parts will be most useful in scrapbooking. Her short-cut guides look really helpful for someone just starting out!
Thanks!

Do you guys think using PE7 is better than using powerpoint? Give you more options for layouts, etc...? Just wondering if I should switch over before I make my deluxe wedding book...thanks!

I think PowerPoint is more user-friendly, but you can do a lot more in Elements and you have complete control over the quality of the .jpgs created. I just needed tutorials to get me going, as there was much more of a learning curve.
I haven't printed off a new book since getting Elements, but I have done a holiday calendar (through Staples) using Elements-created .jpgs, and I thought the pictures came out quite nice and the text was crisp, which it wasn't in my PowerPoint .jpgs printed through MyPublisher. They probably use completely different printing processes so take it for what it's worth!
(Since someone is bound to ask: ) As far as the quality of the Staples calendar, it's smaller than the MyPublisher calendar, but I thought it was a good value for the price. I think the recipients are going to like their gifts. Staples probably doesn't use the same quality paper as MyPublisher, it's not heavy, but the Staples price fit my budget better to print off 6 copies - and I could pick it up at a local store with no shipping costs. Good turn around time, too: I ordered on Saturday & got the call on Sunday to come pick it up.
