I am starting to scan all my "traditional" photo's using an HP scanjet scanner. I'm confused as to what DPI I should be setting when scanning my photos? If I want to fit between 9 to 12 photos per page in the deluxe photo book, what DPI should I be scanning at? Also for the front cover, If I want to do a full page bleed what DPI should I be scanning at? The help section says to do a portrait size full page bleed the size should be 2066 x 2034 with a DPI of 180. I can't seem to scan with these dimensions. If I scan at 600 DPI, the largest the aspect ratio I can do is 1645x2424.

Bottom line, when I make the photo book using the mypublisher book tool, and I see a clear picture.....is this going to be what I truly get??

Thanks for your help

Hi Robin - in all honesty the pixel/page size will depend on the size and aspect ratio of the items you are scanning. If you are planning to use 9-12 photos per page, or full bleed, 300 DPI will work on all counts. 600 DPI will produce a file size that is too, too large on all accounts and when it gets scaled down to fit the book, you risk some pixelation from compression.

Bottom line - use 300DPI. Our image molds scale your image properly when you drag and drop them in. From that point, it is autofit and you can move around as you'd like.

Sincerely,
MyPublisher

Everyone is speaking in terms of scanning pictures at a certain DPI number. I have always scanned using pixels per inch. I usually scan at 300 because I have a 3 megapixel camera. Will my photos print clearly in a photobook at 300 pixels/inch?

I know this probably sounds stupid, but what is DPI (dots per image perhaps)? And, how does it compare to pixels per inch?

I made a book last year using all 4x6 pictures scanned at 300 pixels/inch and it turned out really clear, but was using Bookmaker 2.0. Has anything changed with Bookmaker 2.2?
