View Full Version : MP software not responding

I created a 100-page book with over 300 images with MP software. During the creation of the book, everything went smoothly and I didn't run into any memory problems even though I used 10MP images.

After the book was created, I went back to open the software so that I could proofread and order the book. At this point, I was never able to open MP again... the program would freeze at the splash screen and task manager labeled it "not responding." I tried reinstalling the program over the existing version, but with the same result. I tried opening MP in Safe mode...still no luck.

At this point, I've backed up the "my publisher" directory and uninstalled MP. Upon reinstalling MP, I can now get MP to open normally. Is there anyway to recover my 100-page book at this point? Keep in mind that the book was never formally "exported" since I was never able to open the MP software after it was created. I only have the raw files from the mypublisher directory and its subdirectories. Please tell me 2 weeks of work is not out the window...help!

Ok, so what do you mean by you've backed up the MyPublisher directory. Did you rename it and keep it in the same location in Application Data? If so, you can simply rename the CURRENT, new MyPublisher directory and then rename the backed up directory MyPublisher and it should behave the same exact way. Otherwise it might be a problem with the book file. If it takes a while to open, that's ok. I'd let it sit for at least 5 minutes or so, if the images are large it may be trying to cache them all.

Sincerely,
MyPublisher

I actually moved the old MP directory to an external drive. I'll rename the current directory something else, and move the old one back and see if that works. I'll give it a shot tonight when I get home...thanks.

Curses...no luck!

I replaced the "My Publisher" directory of the new install with my prior saved "My Publisher" directory. When I open the My Publisher program, it freezes at the splash screen like it did before. I left the windows task manager open to see exactly when My Publisher fails, and it goes to "Not Responding" status almost immediately after I launch it.

Any other ideas before I scrap this project?

When is the last time you redownloaded from our website? We put out a maintenance version about a week ago (which was different from the forced upgrade).

i tried redownloading the latest software, both costco version, and regular. still, no luck. i guess the book file itself is corrupt.

alas, i resorted to re-making all hundred pages and placed my order yesterday...everything went through fine this time. maybe a web-based book builder might be the way to go?...the current client-based software seemed pretty buggy for a final release. nonetheless, thanks for your help in trying to salvage my first effort...looking forward to the hard copy of the book!

no sweat, it all worked out in the end. the book looks GREAT and i got it in 3 short days...wow!

for those intimidated by using powerpoint or photoshop, i used only the mypublisher bookmaker 2.3 software.
