We are told to use 180 - 300 dpi.
I have heard that print is generally 300 and that MP is 180.
What does MyPublisher use to print?
Using what they print at should be the best, shouldn't it?
What is the best?
Is it halfway inbetween, which would be 240?
I can do anything, but I want to know what is going to look the VERY BEST.
Shooting we are told > 2 and <7 Megapizels, with optimal 5.
Very understandable.
Do these requirements vary with the size of the photo relative to the page?
If I do a full page and use the recomended 1600 x 1200 pixels for Classic, at 300 dpi, I get a 4 inch high image, rather than 8.75". If I decrease to 180dpi, will the height be correct? Or should I up the inches?
Thanks

Good questions...here goes:
Where full page layouts are concerned the bear minimum resolution is 180 dpi; however, if your images contain enough data, BookMaker will size them to 300dpi when you upload -- this is the ideal resolution. The same is true for a layout that includes smaller images. BookMaker will resize them to the target resolution of 300dpi if the pixels area available, but it will settle for resolution as low as 180 dpi as this will still print properly.
Here are the dimensions for the various books, along with the ideal resolutions for full bleed images. In a nutshell, if your images meet these specs, you're golden.
PocketBook: 7.5?x5.75? @ 300dpi = 2250 x 1725 pixels
Classic Hardcover: 10.75?x8.5? @ 300dpi = 3225 x 2550 pixels
Deluxe Hardcover: 14.25? x 11.125? @ 300dpi = 4275 x 3338 pixels
For the sake of easy math, here are the minimum (but still very printable) specs at 200dpi:
PocketBook: 7.5?x5.75? @ 200ppi = 1500 x 1150 pixels
Classic Hardcover: 10.75?x8.5? @ 200ppi = 2150 x 1700 pixels
Deluxe Hardcover: 14.25? x 11.125? @ 200ppi = 2850 x 2225 pixels

Are those dimensions still the case? It seems the dimensions have changed since then? Or am I mistaken?

--- USING THIRD PARTY IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE ---------------------
If you are using photo editing software to create or edit your images, please keep these points in mind:
~ Use sRGB or RGB when enhancing photos – no CMYK.
~ Use sRGB or RGB for black and white photos – no Grayscale.
~ Remove any vectors, slices or layers from your images.
IMPORTANT: Please allow a 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch 'gutter' around all sides of these images to allow for cropping. Without this allowance, any text or image elements near the edges of the image will be cut off when the book is printed.
Hope this is helpful!

I'm getting ready to start making a book of my wedding and I'm familiarizing myself with photoshop. I made a jpeg image with photoshop that is 4275x3338 at 300dpi, and saved it at the maximum level of detail, and it is over 4 megabytes. This greatly exceeds the recommended 800k. Am I doing something wrong?

4mb to 7mb at 300 dpi are perfect. I'm not sure where you heard about 800k but your size should print just fine.
