View Full Version : Photoshop page conundrum

I've just spent many many hours making a book by using the Photoshop advice I've gotten on this forum. My book is a deluxe hardcover, and the images I've made in PS (I want full bleed) are 15.25"x11.45" at a resolution of 350.

But when I went to preview the book in MyPublisher, the edges of my images are cut off. Is this because the preview tool in the software isn't accurate, or because the dimensions that I'm using are inaccurate.

I used Irusan's advice when doing the sizing and resolution because I didn't know where to adjust dpi in PS (which is a part of everyone else's advice about how to size things).

Please help! This is the second time I've spent a ton of time working on a book and the second time that the Preview shows unwanted cropping. I can't spend the money on the book until I know for sure what's going on!

Thanks so much,
Raphael

I am having the same issue. I made a 11 x 8.5 page in photoshop, and there is a significant amount cut off on either end--over a half-inch. What is the actual page dimensions for the classic hardcover?

I know there should always be a bit extra, but the dimensions are way-off when I upload it into a full-bleed page. If I zoom out so that it fits horizontally, the image becomes over a half-inch too small for the page on the top and bottom.

I just made a full bleed page using Photoshop. I used the following:

W 11.315"
H 8.545"
200 dpi
2263 x 1709 resolution
2.05 mb saved as highest quality 12 in Photoshop (Mb will change with the size of the picture you are using or the number of pictures but keep your final size in the 2 mb to 5 mb range and it should work).
1/2" allowed at binding edge

When I drag this picture into a full bleed Classic book, it fits perfectly. I check this by moving the picture around and the edges are right on.

I used to use the 350 dpi but MyPublisher recommends no more than 180 dpi or 200 dpi. I still use 350 dpi on very small photos when I'm scanning.

Try these measurements and see if they don't work better for you.

Question for Cruiser though....where do you set the resolution??

LOL...one more question....

When I try to drag and drop a picture into the canvas I made with the correct settings it only brings a fraction of the picture into the new canvas. How do I resize my pictures (and then edit them) to be correct?

Thanks!

hi moneypenny

if you open the picture in photoshop first and then go to Image>Image Size... you will have the option to adjust your picture dimensions. if you set the ppi as the same as your canvas then you can simply adjust the document height and width to fit whatever size you want on your canvas (though keep the restrain proportions box ticked to avoid changing your aspect ratio). Then when you import your picture onto the canvas it should be how you planned it. also, and even if you keep the ppi constant, technically the image resize will never be perfect and will degrade the photo a tiny amount so try and do this only once for each photo.

i think i'm in the same boat here as i need to fit several photos onto a full bleed page to simulate templates and it looks like it's going to be a painstakingly slow job. good luck!

Moneypenny I posted to one of your other threads about pulling pictures into your canvas.
