View Full Version : Print a proof

I'd love to be able to print out a proof. I don't know how many times I've thought a document was just perfect, only to find that when I printed it out, I saw errors I hadn't seen before.
Seeing something in print (even if the photos are ghosted way back or have a big, PROOF watermark across them) would prevent many frustrating text errors.

I'd like to be able to do this, too. For whatever reason, no matter how many times I've proofed my text reading my screen, I still end up with some text errors (that seem immediately visible in print).

I agree! This would be VERY helpful. Sometimes I make books for others as gifts, but I like to take them to an outside person to make sure that I didn't miss anything the potential recipient would want in the book. Thank you for taking this into consideration!

I agree completely. I've been trying to decide between several different photo book printers. I had decided to try MyPublisher and spent several hours installing and learning to use the software. When I realized I couldn't print out a copy of my file from BookMaker for proofing I started looking for other vendors again. Yikes.
I have worked in Graphic Arts for over 20 years, and I can't believe there's no way to proof the layout. We proof everything we print, and won't let our clients go to press without doing so.
It's just not possible proof read the small type onscreen, and it would only take a couple of typos to ruin what is meant to be a profesional looking book costing, in my case, over a hundred dollars each. Or maybe I've accidentally chosen the wrong picture in a series, and got the one where the groom's eyes are half closed, or it's slightly out of focus, but couldnt see it even on a big monitor.
The software is nice, but it's not so great that I would use it to lay out my books if I had a choice - too slow and limiting - so I don't think there's going to be a huge wave of people using it for other things, or building books to send to other companies. In other words, if they've locked out printing to keep people from using their software to build layouts for their competitors, I think they're being excessively cautious to the great disadvantage of their customers.
Even Apple's proprietary software let's you export to PDF to print on any printer. That's a huge plus. But I wouldn't use Apple's software for anything else, either.

Hi Everyone - thank you for your suggestions on improving BookMaker! We are always looking for great ideas that can make the product even better. For now, I recommend using the 1-page view preview feature or using the zoom-in in Make Book. Another suggestion would be to create a pocketbook size book as a "proof," and get that printed. After checking it over and presenting it to your clients if need be, you can change the size of the book to a classic or deluxe.
Sincerely,
MyPublisher
