View Full Version : purchase doesn't work!

OMG! What is going on with iPhoto and Mypublisher.com? Neither of them can order books!
We contacted Apple and they have said that there is a problem with the Kodak server that handles the book orders (an error message appears "can't connect to server"). They recommended other resources to print the books, hence the reason why I switched to Mypublisher.
Unfortunately, after I click on the "next" button, nothing happens! I'm already connected, Safari is already open, I have all of the updated versions of Safari and Bookmaker. What's wrong? Why do I keep getting "internet connection required" error?
I have gone through the forum and FAQ sections, followed the required settings and still nothing is working.
Help! I need these books done right away!

Hi Rod,
I have been ordering books from iPhoto for a long time and have received many books from them without any problems. Until last week when it simply stopped working. There are a lot of loyal customers complaining on the Apple forum about this issue.
I'm trying to figure out why some people can get through and yet others are not able to get a book, I have a few questions for you:
Are you on dial up or high speed?
Are you located in Canada or the USA?
What version of iPhoto are you using?
Here is what I have:
iMac Intel, iPhoto 8 (Bookmaker Plugin n/a for this version), Dial Up and live in Canada.

Hi - I'm so sorry you are having trouble with the purchase. You can try to set your browser to Firefox to see if that helps. We don't recommend dial up, because book uploads take a very long time, and can potentially time out.
I recommend closing your browser before clicking the NEXT button just so we can see if the browser is even launching.
Let me know what happens.
Sincerely,
MyPublisher

Sorry, I don't have a choice in terms of internet speed where I live, it's dial up or nothing.
I have used dial up with iPhoto many, many times and even though it may take 2 or 3 hours, it goes through beautifully. Until recently when their Kodak server starting have problems... sigh.
I have already mentioned previously, I went through the FAQ and already tried shutting down everything including the browser and nothing happens. The browser is not even launching.
I'm nearly in tears, I really wanted to order books for Christmas, they are very special to the person I giving them to, she loves my photography and it's from a family reunion she did this summer.
Are you by any chance, using the same server as iPhoto? Just curious...

Hello - No, we do everything in-house, internally. It's all MyPublisher. Sorry about the dial-up...
Ok - for the Internet Connection Required screen, can you tell me whether you can access the browser from other parts of the application? For example, when you click the HELP button, does our website come up?
Can you also try Firefox? Sometimes people have had luck when they switch browsers.
I'm also going to ask around to see if anyone else here has any suggestions.
Sincerely,
MyPublisher

Wow, you are much faster at responses than Apple!
Yes, the menus work fine, your website comes up no problem.
Yep, tried Firefox, nothing happens, it doesn't even launch when I click on Purchase or Next.
Should I try other service such as Shutterfly? I'm really not keen on having to stay online in order to place the images into the layout at those book sites (the pages take forever to load). I have found it much better to use iPhoto or Bookmaker to place the images in the layouts at my own leisure.

I'm having the same issue with the "purchase" function in BookMaker. Has a solution been found for this problem? Thanks!

Well it depends if you have confirmed you are on the correct version of everything. Are you on a high speed or dial up connection?
The person above is on dial-up and it appears that her session is timing out.

Thanks for your quick response. I read through a few of the other threads, and tried the suggested fixes. None of them seemed to work, but I just re-launched everything and tried again. Low and behold, it worked! Funny thing is, I tried re-launching a few times, and it didn't work before, so unfortunately, I'm not sure what advice I could offer others with the same problem.
